Interview advice
It can be a stressful process for some and an exciting one for others but however you feel about The Interview – there are some tips that will help make the experience a little less challenging;
Always do your research – each company has it’s own unique position, brand and vision.
Access the information from your recruiter – AT BPS we make it part of every job placement to understand not only the clients objectives and goals, but also the culture and dynamic of the business. We will always fully brief our candidates on all we know so you are best prepared but always ask if there is something your keen to know.
Remember to dress for the occasion – It sounds obvious but if the job requires it think carefully about the way you present yourself as this will be part of the impression the employer gets of you.
Think about the time – Always plan your journey and consider that there may be traffic and the train may not arrive on time!! It’s always far less stressful to arrive 5-10 minutes early so you have time to relax and consider than to be late or rushed. Ultimately, your discipline getting to an interview on time will be seen as an indicator for the future – so always air on the side of caution.
Plan your interview – Think about how you would like the interview to go – there will of course be a structure outlined to you but consider what questions you would like to ask, what information you will need to make a decision about the role. Bring notes or print out articles that you feel may be relevant to your discussions. Also, think about what the employer is likely to want to know about you. Your CV is only a guide – the purpose of an interview is to explore more about you as an individual – what your ambitions, aspirations and inspirations are – so be prepared and explore these things before the interview – that way your answers will be more fluid and considered.
Think about what your personal challenges and limitations are – If you live in Southampton and the job is based in Paris you need to have thought through the challenges that this may pose. Again – do your homework – the role will always come with a full job description so if there’s anything that doesn’t feel right always ask us and we can delve into it in more detail.
Happy interviewing!
Always Feedback – If you felt the interview went well or was a hidious experience we need to know as soon as possible. It’s good to know where you felt the challenges arose and if there are any show stoppers.
Try to enjoy the experience – Interviews can be challenging but always try and enjoy the process and make sure that you let the employer see why you are the best person for the job – rest assured we will do our very best to make sure that you are presented in the best light – then it’s all up to you!!
